The week of June 16, 2008, we got snow peas, whole peas, cauliflower, broccoli, garlic scapes, collards, salad mix, head lettuce and mint.
Pam, our farmer, was contacted by Good Morning America to be part of a segment they are doing on Community Supported Agriculture. On June 16, a crew filmed our CSA delivery at Sandy Spring and interviewed members about why they are participating in CSA. The segment is set to be aired on Thursday, June 19 on ABC. What is exciting is the fact that CSA has gotten the attention of mainstream media. It is a great way to expand the CSA and eating local movement further.
Food and global warming, any connection? In case you haven’t thought about it directly, Pam reports that the remaining strawberries didn’t make it through last week’s record heat, which is why we have all green in this week’s share. Plus the violent weather took out Pam’s power and she suffered from heat sickness for several days. Twelve hour days in 100+ weather is one way that farmers experience global warming.

If you are an activist-type, you may want to join Al Gore’s new campaign called WE or We Can Solve It. Gore’s Alliance for Climate Protection wants to enlist 10 million volunteers who will pressure the federal government to enact policies aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Wow - how exciting - I wish I could be there!!. I can’t tell you how much we enjoy all aspects that CSA has to offer. Including enjoying fantastic fresh food that we never knew we loved (beet greens -looove them…Chard…yum)
Knowing that we are helping the soil and water, by purchasing organic foods; helping the air and gas situation by purchasing locally and supporting our local farmers ~ It just makes too much sense on so many levels.
AND there simply is no better fresh produce. THANK YOU for all that you do and I hope the GMA segment goes well.
Let me know if Oprah calls….I may have to take a vacation day… ho ho ho
