The week of June 23, 2008, we got sweet Bing cherries (Black Tartarian variety), salad mix, beets w/tops, herb, garlic scapes, potatoes, peas, kale and head lettuce.
We were on national TV! Good Morning America featured our CSA in a story about food prices last week, interviewing co-founder Erin Johnson and member Carolyn Heeley. Other members are shown picking up their boxes. Scroll down for more photos.
These photos are taken from the GMA segment. Even though there is a PLAY arrow in each picture, clicking on it won’t play the video. To watch the video, click here.
The piece on Good Morning America was called Money-Saving Food Tips. You should already feel good about getting this wonderful produce and supporting Farmer Pam. Now you can also feel really good about saving money in the CSA. The TV segment compared our share to the purchase of the same produce at a grocery store and found that we are realized a savings of $11 this past week. That’s quite a value and the quality is superior. Thank you, Pam.
Because of the added interest from the TV show, we are getting lots of sign ups already for the Fall CSA, which runs October 6 through November 24. The price for returning members is $195.000. The deadline is August 1. If you are interested, you should sign up soon and send your money to Meg Pease-Fye.
Click here to get the application. In the Fall, you get the hard stuff e.g. squashes, eating pumpkin, beets, potatoes, apples as well as greens. The boxes get heavy, so get in shape now. Sign up now so you won’t miss out.
Food for Thought
One of the founders of our CSA is a biodynamic blueberry farmer. Robert’s Blueberry Gardens are now open for U-pick. The farm is on 108 in Ashton. At New Hampshire you head east on 108. The sign to turn in is on the right. It is a beautiful spot.
Here is an article from Grist about the many benefits of organic farming. It is an interview with Timothy LaSalle, Executive Director of the Rodale Institute.
Participating in CSA might just be the tip of the iceberg (lettuce) for you. There are so many ways to live more simply and in harmony with the Earth. Here is a website called Lifehack.org Guide to Green Living – 20 Green Ideas that reminds us of the many opportunities to simplify and be more “green” at home and in the office.
