The week of June 2, 2008, we got head lettuce, asparagus, rhubarb, strawberries, radishes, spring onions and herbs.
This week Farmer Pam has generously offered a bonus: extra leafy stuff, e.g. collards, kale, salad mix, baby spinach, dandelion, escarole, radicchio, parsley – flat & curly. However, boxes will vary as to these extras. Please DO NOT go through the boxes. Just take one and be grateful for the surprise extra.
Pam is an animal rescue addict. She has Scout, the “couch “ with legs & LuLu, the spitz, along with eighteen kitties, who supervise the field hands. Last Thursday, through incomprehensible circumstances, which are described in the Farmers Journal section of the website, she acquired 5 one-year old dogs, which she hopes to get adopted. One she says looks like an “Orphan Annie” dog and another is a collie/shepherd mix. All are in good health and very cute, but abandoned. All the shelters up there are full. If you looking for a companion dog, you should contact Pam soon.
Thanks to Maxine, who made me aware of this wonderful website called Women’s Voices for the Earth. Women’s Voices for the Earth (WVE) is a national, women-centered environmental health and justice organization that works to eliminate or substantially reduce environmental toxics impacting human health and to increase women’s participation in environmental decision-making. Speaking of recipes, they offer several for home-made, all natural cleaning products like laundry detergent and furniture polish. And they have food recipes.
Enjoy,
Erin
