July 14, 2010: This week’s featured fruits and vegetables are:
onion – fresh onion, should be stored in the refrigerator
beans – green , yellow or flat green Roma beans,
zucchini – several different varieties in a variety of colors, including white. These are edible summer squash, not gourds
fennel – you can use both the bulb & the fronds
About fennel, you can slice it like celery and put it in salads. Slice it fine since it is chewier than celery. You can steam along with potato and cabbage to make a delicious puree. Just add butter and a seasoning like caraway or paprika.
