Farmer’s Journal - Typical Day, Rising at 4am

Here is a little idea of our work day – which is 7 days a week – I get up at 4a (earlier on some days) – 4-5a is my quiet time- I have a cup of tea , review the weather reports, go outside to confirm the weather report, then revise the plan of work for the day, then drive to pick up the help – we are in the fields by 7ish, I then come in the house & have a quick bit to eat if I was not able to pick up a ‘breakfast sandwich’ on the road, by this time a variety of volunteers have begun to arrive, I work with them on their assignment for the day, then I work in the fields for about 6-7 hours – I run errands on the lunch hour while all the people eat lunch & rest , then back out for more work in the field – if it is raining – we have indoor work, cleaning & sharpening tools, putting labels on the boxes, seeding trays in the green house etc. , around 4-5p I take people home, then I return to the farm to pick up for the day, check the plan of work again for tomorrow, there is usually something going on in the evening – 3 days there are people are here from 6 til about 9 to do mowing, trimming the fence lines, plowing etc. in an around all that – we pack boxes & load the trucks for the drivers to make deliveries. I am usually in bed, asleep, by 8 at the latest – with or with out dinner.

Thanks,

pam
